Record of commissions for county appointive officers, 1901-1951.

The series contains copies of commission certificates for individuals appointed by the Governor to local government positions from 1901 to 1951. The certificates were filed with the Secretary of State according to Chapter 113.06 F.S. Each certificate specifies: the name of the person being commissioned; the office title; the term of office; official signatures of the Governor and Secretary of State; and occasionally the date of filing of the oath and bond by the commissioned officer. The State and County Directories (Series 1284) serve as the index to this series.

The County Guards were created in 1917 (Ch. 7292, Laws) by the Florida Legislature to replace the National Guard of Florida which had been activated for European service as part of the American Expeditionary Force of World War I.
